A Dual Dialogue in Emotion

Harshh Kumar and Dheeraj Jadhav Exhibit at Method Kala Ghoda

This summer, Method Kala Ghoda in Mumbai brings together two thought-provoking and visually contrasting exhibitions that explore the vast spectrum of human emotion. From May 16 to June 15, 2025, the gallery will showcase After Silence by Mumbai-based visual artist Harshh Kumar and Inheritance of a Feeling by Delhi-based Dheeraj Jadhav. Though vastly different in style and medium, both bodies of work delve into personal narratives and emotional terrains, inviting viewers to reflect, absorb, and introspect.

Harshh Kumar’s After Silence is a compelling journey through the artist’s inner world. Known for his expressive use of colour and texture, Kumar leans into gestural abstraction to express emotional turbulence. His works are vivid and multilayered, almost echoing the aftermath of intense introspection. Swirls of bold hues, fragmented patterns, and layered brushstrokes create a visual rhythm that feels spontaneous yet deeply considered. Each canvas pulsates with a raw emotional charge, as though the silence after chaos has found its voice through colour.

In stark contrast, Dheeraj Jadhav’s Inheritance of a Feeling speaks in quiet tones. Working primarily in monochrome, Jadhav explores the subconscious through a series of intricate inkblot works. His minimalist approach brings attention to subtle nuances — the folds of memory, inherited emotion, and fleeting thought patterns that are often overlooked. The series includes only one artwork in colour, a deliberate and symbolic choice that marks a shift in tone and invites deeper interpretation. It stands as a visual rupture in the otherwise quiet narrative, perhaps suggesting the intrusion of new emotion or an unresolved memory.

What binds both exhibitions is their shared exploration of the human psyche — one through explosive expression, the other through meditative stillness. Kumar’s canvases feel like emotional exhalations, letting go of repressed feelings through a burst of gestural motion. Jadhav, meanwhile, holds space for silence, using repetition and detail to unearth feelings inherited, often unknowingly, over time.

The curation at Method does not just place these two exhibitions side by side; it creates a dynamic dialogue between them. Viewers moving from Kumar’s bold, colourful chaos into Jadhav’s quiet, monochromatic world experience an emotional shift that highlights the breadth of artistic expression. It is a rare chance to witness how two artists respond differently to similar emotional undercurrents.

Method’s Kala Ghoda space, known for championing contemporary Indian art, provides the perfect backdrop for these introspective exhibitions. The gallery’s focus on emerging and mid-career artists aligns seamlessly with the practices of both Kumar and Jadhav, who push the boundaries of visual storytelling through distinct yet relatable lenses.

Whether you are drawn to the energetic brushstrokes of Kumar or the contemplative ink patterns of Jadhav, these two exhibitions offer a meditative and multi-sensory experience. In a time when the external world often feels chaotic and loud, After Silence and Inheritance of a Feeling remind us of the power of internal landscapes — how emotion, memory, and silence can be rendered into compelling visual form.

The exhibitions are open to the public from May 16 to June 15, 2025, at Method Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. Together, they promise an evocative summer of reflection and artistic dialogue.
