While there is a glorious side to the ghats of Ganga, especially that of Banaras, there is also a side that is lesser known to the general people, the side that hides behind the lights of the main and marvellous ghats that bustles with activities, colours and enchantments, leaving the other sides totally overlooked.

In this painting Banaras Ghat by BV Nalakar, we see a side of Banaras that is for the local, the less visited and mostly ignored. This painting tells the story of the hardships of the people, the terrain that brings them blisters, and the colours that are too bright.
